STATE PARK INTERPRETER I (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) – SIERRA DISTRICT/SIERRA GOLD SECTOR/ EMPIRE MINE SHP

The reporting location for this position is Empire Mine SHP near Nevada City, CA. This position will work under the direction of the Sierra District Interpreter III.

The position will be responsible for school group coordination, interpretive program facilitation, volunteer management, roving interpretation, and Adventure Pass data tracking and reporting requirements. Interpretive content includes California Gold Rush history, environmental implications of hydraulic mining, and current remediation efforts. Other responsibilities include scheduling and conducting school group programs for approximately 500 students annually, maintaining historic sites and interpretive panels, researching park history and working on a variety of resource and publication projects. This position will also manage, schedule, and assist in the training of volunteers to assist in interpretive programs. The position will work in partnership with the Cooperating Associations and co-organize annual events such as Humbug Days. Applicants must be willing to work weekends, holidays and irregular hours, often on an as needed basis.

Desirable Qualifications: A background in cultural history or natural history is strongly desired.

This position requires a valid driver’s license and. Please provide proof of eligibility with application.  

This position may work up to 1500 hours per year.
